Every year, from middle school to senior year of high school, I would get a slow, creeping feeling at the beginning of August. I would count down the days till the first day of school and feel a mix of fear and excitement, terror and joy, bemoaning the return of homework but compelled by the idea that maybe, just maybe, I could be the best version of myself this year. My school year reinventions rarely extended beyond switching up my pretty woeful style (I was an insufferable theater kid from the start of puberty until welllllllll into my twenties) but there was something so exciting about the “I can be anyone” feeling I really only experienced as a teen.
In honor of all that, a totally ridiculous flowchart to help you figure out your new persona for the new school year. Let’s meet by the lockers after first period to compare notes. I can’t believe we finally get to go off campus for lunch this year!!!!!!

Flowchart designed by Emily Zirimis.
