Tokyo Street Style Is the Epitome of Thoughtful Fashion

When it comes to getting dressed, my personal philosophy is of the “throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks” school of thought. I experiment based on how I’m feeling on any given day, tossing in various components until I end up with something that gives me the tell-tale spine thrill of an outfit that sparks intrigue. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s not especially deliberate, which is why I’m so in awe of the style that comes out of Tokyo Fashion Week.

If “deliberate” came in outfit form, these would be IT. They convey an unmissable sense of thoughtfully curated intention; a composite of bunches that somehow never appear sloppy; Full Looks that give Celine Dion a run for her Vetements; earrings that coordinate with hair highlights; belts layered in perfect harmony; fresh takes on boiled wool and button-down shirts reconfigured into wearable art. It’s not the variety of street style that makes you think, “Cool! I can do that!,” but rather the kind that makes you rethink what it means to engage with your wardrobe in a way that glimmers with purpose. Click through the slideshow below and prepare to feel invigorated.
