536 of the Best Street Style Looks From New York Fashion Week

On the first day of New York Fashion Week, I wore a pair of Ganni cowboy boots that have taunted me from my shoe shelf for months. I paired them with black trousers and a camel sweater, and then fashioned a seven-foot black ribbon into a bow around my ponytail. It was over-the-top in only the mildest of terms, but I felt a little like a fashion week cliche; proof that street style photographers play a disproportionate role in shaping the aesthetic of the week.

But even if that makes you roll your eyes, there is something distinctly fun about that fact, too. I’m not the only one pulling ribbons off boxes and my weirdest shoes off the shelf. Everyone is. Which is exactly why clicking through fashion week’s street style offerings is so consistently entertaining. And ripe for analysis — because people may be turning it up to 11 to get the shot, but in doing so we get to learn what their 11 is, and what fashion’s 11 is.

Take a scroll through the offerings so far below, shot by photographer Kaye McCoy, and let me know what you find. I’ll meet you there.
