Have you heard of the Man Repeller Writers Club? Every month we pose a story idea, you write about it, send it to us, and at the end of the month, we run the winning piece. You can find June’s prompt here (which you still have time to enter). but in honor of Pride Month, we’re adding an additional short-term prompt to June.
This year’s Pride Month comes at a troubling time for civil rights in America.
German Lopez for Vox aptly put it: “Although LGBTQ advocates have seen big gains in recent years, the election of President Donald Trump and state-level initiatives against LGBTQ rights — from Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military to bills in North Carolina and Texas to stop trans people from using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity — have shown just how fragile these gains can be.”
Whether you plan to spend this month celebrating, protesting, advocating or all of the above, we’d like to hear your personal stories about finding pride, however meandering or direct your path. Exactly how you want to share it is up to you: short personal essay, poem, list, advice to your younger self or someone else — anything is fair game. Just send it to write [at] manrepeller [dot] com with the subject line “My Pride Story,” by 8 p.m. EST on Sunday, June 10th.
