Chloë Sevigny’s Closet Is For Sale and I Want Everything

As the eldest of three girls, I used to daydream about having a big sister — ideally someone three-to-five years older with large coiffeurs of wisdom and even larger coiffeurs of cool clothes I could poach. When I pictured this big sister in my head, she looked a whole lot like Chloë Sevigny. For one thing, I thought she kind of looked like she could be my sister, but mostly I just wanted access to her closet.

One time, when I was walking home from work, I spotted a women wearing such a cool outfit I literally ran (stealthily) up behind her to take a quick (stealthy) photo so I wouldn’t forget it. A moment later the women turned around, and who was it but Chloë Sevigny? I’ve bookmarked her outfits with intense frequency over the years; I guess my habit translates to real life, too.

The fantasy of her becoming my big sister never became a reality due to the rather limiting restrictions of sex and science, but the universe has its way of working things out…

And I say that because The RealReal is selling her closet!!!!!!!!!

First Jenna, now Chloë. What a time to be alive and shopping consignment, huh? Best of all, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Chloë’s clothes will be donated to the Hetrick-Martin Institute, a leading provider of social support for LGBTQ youth and the host agency for the Harvey Milk School, an institution that seeks to provide a safe haven for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students who have experienced discrimination or harassment.

As Chloë’s esteemed fake sister, I’m more than happy to take on the task of relaying exactly which items from her closet I’m most keen on copping and why. Enjoy that list below, and let me know what you’re eyeing in the comments.

1. Yves Saint Laurent Vintage Top

I like this top not only because it feels distinctly Chloë
Sevigny, but also because I think it would look so neat layered over a high-waist bikini come summer. Kind of like a fancy beach jacket.

2. Norma Kamali Fluted Maxi Dress

Doesn’t this dress seem like the type of garment you’d buy and wear a million and one times? For one thing, it’s navy, and for another, it looks really comfortable. The combination of those two things amounts to a surefire wardrobe staple in the making.

3. Supreme High-Rise Jeans

Is it just me, or are these jeans fan-freaking-tastic? They’re that perfect “not quite straight, not quite wide-leg” silhouette, plus they look like they’ve been worn in just the right amount to give them that coveted “my chic big sister had these in college and now they’re mine” vibe.

4. Pleated Python Skirt

I imagine Chloë wore this skirt with a graphic tank top, a jean jacket like the one above and white leather boots, which is precisely what I would encourage you to do as well if you are entertaining the notion of buying it.

5. Prada Raso 1 Pattina Clutch

I’ve recently contracted an obsession with purple and this clutch is not helping. To make matters worse (i.e. more enticing), Chloë happens to be my handbag icon, a truth I have chronicled in depth on this very website.

6. Dolce & Gabbana Silk Polka Dot Dress

Last but not least, an investment piece: the polka dot dress of your dreams. It’s expensive, so feel free to simply window shop, but indulge me in wistfully considering what it would be like to wear this with tiger-print tights, chunky sandals and big gold earrings.
