We’ve talked about this sweater before — we both like it — but I need you to be honest with me: should I actually buy it? Like, do I need a zip-up, puffy sleeve, way-too-blue Fair Isle sweater? How would I wear it? High-waist jeans + high pony + kitten heels? Also, for $45, should I just go ahead and get this peach “cami” as a just-in-case for the imminent holiday season? Should I get NOTHING and start saving up/planning for a pair of party shoes?

Yeah, I love that sweater. It’ll actually look great with what you’re wearing today (those high-waist Levi’s + pink tie belt). I’d probably wear it with these pants, this shirt underneath it and these shoes.
But I’m a diva. On to more important things (people), like me! I’ve wanted these shoes for a really long time, then Harling used them to style a partner story with Hysteria by Happy Socks and now I feel like if I don’t get them, nothing will ever be the same again, in a bad way. What say you? Meanwhile…I’m so relieved that for $3,500 I can own this bodysuit!

Alright fine, I’m going for it and getting the sweater. I can’t wait to look like a von Trapp. And I like the outfit you “made.” Kule shirts are so kule.
BACK 2 U: Get those shoes. They look comfortable and are so funky they’re never going to be in or out or everywhere. I don’t think you’ll get sick of them, is what I’m saying. And I’m so glad for that bodysuit. Bless the lord and all that. (Sidebar: I’m getting this J.Crew knit.)
Do you think my hair is too long? I think I need to cut it to feel put together for the winter. And more than anything, I need to moodboard my fall look. WHO IS YOUR FALL-INTO-WINTER PERSON, LEANDRA?

Would you ever with these? They would look so fab with a top like this, tucked in so you can add a belt like this, and maybe some shoes like this. Then you can full-circle the look with a blazer like this and call yourself my crazy aunt Cathy!
Actually, this twinset from J.Crew would be perfect (and is only $42.99!) too.
It’s also underrated that MyTheresa’s sale is still going on. Are you into glitter shoes because I think I am all about some flats to couple with a cashmere sweat suit and utility jacket; Exhibit A and Exhibit B:

Two things I will never be able to wear without looking like a kindergartener: a polka dot twinset, and glitter flats. But seriously, I wish I could, so you take those items and run right to the cash register, Leandra Medine. I will cheer you on.
Those camouflage J.Crew pants are gr8, but my favorite thing you sent over is that Balenciaga belt. Recently, I’ve been loving a belt with a lower-rise jean. Who am I? A question to ask on many levels given that sentence.
MyTheresa has no sale shoes in my size. Boo. But look at this red vinyl trench coat on ASOS for $135 that a cooler me could wear in the rain. While I’m on ASOS, I can’t tell if this embellished smock tock is pretty or not. I kinda like it for a “going out” (to dinner) top. Tucked into high-waist jeans? (I’m currently obsessed, obsessed, obsessed with these ones from Moussy — they are so satisfying on.) Could be really pretty!
WHAT SHOES?
Last q: I know this is basically a Saint Laurent-heyday ripoff, but is the 80s redux being taken too far?

A couple of questions: (1) What is a smock tock? (2) What does it mean when a pair of jeans are satisfying on? I am into those Moussy jeans too, but what I find whenever I buy jeans that are that length is that I end up hating how they look with all shoes except like, ballet flats, which everyone knows you cannot wear when it’s cold. For whatever reason, boots never look right and the proportion of a heel with a not-cropped, not-not-cropped, not-wide, not-not-wide leg like that is just a recipe for confusion.
But let’s move on! I am all about that red patent coat and think you should get it! Will look so good with the aforementioned jeans. I’m also low key really into this patent leather (fine, vinyl) dress. Maybe I can go all out and wear it with a vinyl beret because I am dramatic. Speaking of hats, I’m really into this style as of late. What do you think? I don’t really care but am asking as a courtesy.
And back on the dress wagon: This would look cool with a pair of knee-high boots. Maybe these ones?
Meanwhile, I have furniture and knick knacks on the mind because I’m moving and shit so I’m really excited that Le Labo is doing soap now because I’m going to put this in my powder room. Lol, jk, I don’t have a powder room, but I do have a kitchen sink!
Meanwhile x2, I am still seriously considering acquisition here (I can get them 30% off). Should I pull the trigger or wuht? And while we’re on the topic of shoes, too early to start thinking about holiday porties? These from Topshop have Catalina wine mixer written all over them (and at under $100, I might add!).
I’d wear them with this top, this dress layered over plus large sweater to rotate between clavicles (over shoulder) and waist (tied below boobies).

I’m so glad you asked about a smock tock! It’s an apron for your internal clock and it’s very important that they’re pretty or else nothing ticks.
Re: your vinyl dress…isn’t that a funny thing about clothes and your friends’ opinions on clothes? I would have never considered that dress if you didn’t just show it to me now. But I see it in a whole new light. And that J.Crew men’s sweater is a dream. Speaking of holiday porties, we really gotta get that sequined J.Creezy dress. Wanna timeshare it? I like that “desert canyon” color better than the silver and green we talked about last time. The name alone makes me think of this old post.
I like everything else you sent me (even, surprisingly, that yellow velvet ASOS dress although I’m less enthusiastic about that Maison Michel hat but that’s related to my own hat hang ups), especially given that this conversation is about to turn to HOME GOODS!!!
I want:
This Kate Spade lamp (their home goods stuff is so good).
This “HELLO” welcome sign for outside my apartment since the inside is so “equestrian.” This will help to break it up a ton.
A rectangular coffee table, potentially mirrored, that isn’t tacky and doesn’t take up room and isn’t over $300. I’m starting here as a reference, but this is not “the one” yet.
A navy headboard, although I can’t tell which ones I love and which ones I hate yet. (Styling interiors is another brain. It’s nowhere near as automatic in terms of what I like versus what’s actually nice versus what’s checking a box)
I do know that I’d like to wear these astronomy pajamas while at home, especially since pajamas may be the key to a better bed routine. But back to clothes, I keep realizing that what’s missing from my closet — one major gap of a thing that I keep reaching for but realize I don’t own, are red ballet flats. Should I get Everlane ones or splurge on red Chanel-os?

Ugh, isn’t the concept of a coffee table so damn romantic? It’s my favorite genre of furniture because all the fun stuff gets to go on it, least of the loot not being actual coffee. In close second: coffee table books and in a personal favorite third: candy. (Remember when you ate my fertility almonds? For the uninitiated, I was given a pack of sugared almonds at a bris a couple of years ago as a good omen to get pregnant and Amelia came over and up and ate them directly off my coffee table.)
I’m going for a minimalist Scandi-vibe in our new place, so thinking more along the lines of these. The color palette is going to be white and neutrals, but I’m so into the idea of one weird and wild pop of color, which is where option 3 comes in.
Back to the clothes! I don’t think you need to splurge and get Chanel ballet flats, although I do really love the ones that are sold at APC (I have two pairs), which retail for closer to $250; they’re a collab with a brand called Porselli. I just found you red ones on Vestiaire Collective for $105.
Next question: what are your thoughts on kimonos? I’m trying so hard to make winter caftans happen but the powers that be are not aiding the cause (is it so much to ask for a rigid wool or velvet tent?) so a kimono feels like potentially a nice solve, but I haven’t found any that I love yet (except the Etro ones which are SO $$$!) I’m left feverishly accessorizing with this basket, these sunglasses (on sale on The Outnetttttttt) and this necklace.
Final thought: sexy sandals are very much back.
Want to wear with black polka dot tights, a white slip dress, this cardigan and this choker.

I haven’t been able to look at a Jordan almond the same since. One day we will look back on that moment and laugh even though I already do!
I can’t believe that basket bag is $25. I’m also so glad we are deciding to keep basket bags around. More than anything, I am touched that you found me THE PERFECT ballet flats. I’m about to run my credit card for those red ones the moment I figure out if a European 38 is a US-with-bunions size 8. It’s an endless adventure.
What I really need to talk about are THOSE AQUAZZURA SHOES. Those are amazing. Cinderella would die, I’ll have to text her. She might like these too for a more casual day. And you’re so right about sexy shoes. Everyone is sick of chunky heeled sock shoes, although I love Harling’s take on personality heels. I want the elephant Dorateymur ones she shot, but in pink — and part of me would rather put them on display.
My thoughts on robe sweaters as your winter kaftan (since the one you describe is like something André Leon Talley would wear, which might be worth investigating seeing as he’s really got it all figured out) is that I like them, personally, but the underneath bit always feels hard to master. Do you wear a tee? Is it a graphic one? If you do a sweater under a sweater, don’t you get hot?
In browsing online for some ideas, I came up with none, but! I found these random trinkets I want, and since I have to go, perhaps forever and ever, once I sign off, I leave you with this:
– These blue acrylic hoops from Cult Gaia that are $90 total.
– This hot chili pepper earring, mostly because it makes me think of Man Repeller
– I can’t afford this because $695 for a pill case is insane, but look how chic
– These sequin flares that I’ll probably save for a holiday party
– And more than anything, I want this green faux fur jacket from Burberry but it’s too expensive. This green leopard one from Shrimps is less but not as polished.
Maybe it’s too soon for coats and things. Which means it’s not weird if I get this new cut of swim suit from Solid & Striped, right? I am very much in love. I could always wear it with a trench coat + rain boots!

Just pictured you walking down Mott Street in a bathing suit, trench and rain boots and that was a great visual, thank you for it. Of all the links you sent me, I love the Cult Gaia earrings the most. I’m also offended you haven’t noticed that the chili pepper has been in my right earlobe since June! Meanwhile, the new Solid and Striped suits really are awesome. I’m all in for this one.
What’s with you and short coats? Are you over grand dame long ones? I can’t co-sign, especially given that a dress like this requires a coat like this or this. (And leisurely shoes.)
Hey look, a finger ring! Literally! But also, how great is this heart-shaped signet ring from Kate Spade? Silver dipped in gold; I’m sold.
What do you think of Alexa Chung’s collection? I am into these overalls (dungarees?) to wear with these silver shoes and a top like this, but the price point feels a bit high.
Never mind. I don’t care about your opinion. Instead gonna leave you with this lamp.
