Welcome to Fandom Month on Man Repeller!

I hope you’ve got your band tee and poster markers ready: it’s Fandom Month on Man Repeller.

The coolest thing about this theme — besides the pun just waiting to be said (cool, fan…) — is that the MR community came up with the idea.

So thank you!!!

“Fandom can be interpreted so many ways,” Leandra wrote to the team after I forgot to elaborate about said theme in my team-wide email for our March pitch meeting. I literally just wrote “FANDOM” in a super-sized font with multicolored letters, then hit send. Anywho, she continued: “Celebrity fandom, fashion fandom, influencer fandom. It forces us to confront what we mean when we say/think/engage with the notion of celebrity. Where is the line that draws fandom from obsession? Does such a line truly exist?”

We’re going to explore these themes by talking to celebrity superfans, talking to ourselves about what (or who) we’re superfans of, doing a shoot that involves literal fans (and fashion), and of course, stretching out the concept of fandom in so many different iterations (from iconic television to the Oscars to I don’t even know what) it’ll make your head spin.

Oh, but if you could kindly keep your head still for just one more second, we’d love to know what you’d like to see more of. Deposit in the comments section below where I will respond in fan mail.
