Where were you before this and what were you doing?
Before MR, I was doing Client Services at BuzzFeed, which essentially meant I worked with the sales team to come up with new ideas and ways to partner with BuzzFeed’s key clients.
What did you go to school for?
I went to Washington University in St. Louis for psychology and marketing.
How did you get started at Man Repeller?
Matt Little, MR’s Director of Business Operations, was my close friend at BuzzFeed. We worked really well together and kept in touch after he left. I learned about the role from him.
Favorite part of your job?
I’m most excited about the range of projects that I’m working on. I like to think I can be a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-some.
Least favorite part of your job?
If I had to pick something, the office is really quiet sometimes. After living in an apartment facing a busy street for the past eight years, I can’t focus without background noise. I can’t sleep without background noise. I can’t function without background noise!
What’s one thing that surprised you in your path up until now?
I was surprised to learn that your career path doesn’t need to be (and probably shouldn’t be) a linear one. Once I stopped obsessing over what my next step should be, I opened up and started taking opportunities that have ultimately pushed me further than any “linear step” could have.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be like the Iron Nun. I want to be active, enjoying the outdoors and doing crazy sh*t that people half my age aren’t even doing.
What’s one piece of advice you can offer to someone who wants a job like yours?
You’re always interviewing, even when you have the job. Every job I’ve ever gotten, with the exception of my first two, were through old colleagues.
What’s one piece of advice you have for someone who has no clue what they want to do?
What you want to do doesn’t need to be something big, static and for the far future. Focus on what you want to do this year, this month, this week.
Tell me something weird about you.
I’ve been getting into stones. I never leave my house without some stones in my bra, pocket or wallet. Right now, Blue Kyanite is one of the stones I have on me.
