Let me tell you something about Kellie Brown. She and I first met at the MR Round Table on plus-size fashion. She is very funny, very outspoken, HATES an elastic-waist belt just for the sake of “defining your feminine figure” — let her live — and is completely unafraid of fashion. I asked her if there was anything she wouldn’t wear besides an elastic-waist belt for the sake of “defining her feminine figure” and she gave me a resounding nope. That’s part of her blog’s whole mantra: And I Get Dressed isn’t about rules, it’s about self-expression and exploration through fashion.
So, when she told me that she picked up what Emily Zirimis put down last September and wanted her own version of the MR treatment, I was like, DONE. Which of course means we had to get some flares under a sequined skirt ASAP to go with the fried egg boob shirt I saw on her site once and have been on the hunt for ever since. I asked her to bring it to the shoot, she did, hence outfit one above.
Then it was time to expand upon something I’ve been thinking about but haven’t put into action myself: turtleneck under the OTS shirt.
Here it is in the WILD with a skirt. And sneakers, because when you’re in this outfit you are on the damn go.
Finally, with Kellie all warmed up, it was time to get weird.
A trench (that Elizabeth labored over with the delicate, cautious hands of someone painting the wings of a baby bird; this coat does not come with those pins, she put them on) over a top (any tee will do, really), plus a ball skirt worn over leather pants and then tucked back into the waistband for draping.
Oh! And red cat-eye glasses, too. Why? No reason, really, other than they are never not the cherry on top of a sweet outfit that follows a fried egg breakfast.
