A Florence Apartment That Redefines “Room With a View”

As with clothes, the way you decorate a room expresses your personality. In its most ideal form, it signals to guests how you interpret yourself. In this round of Real Cool People, Real Cool Apartments, we check out the Florence home of Maria Sole Cecchi, the co-founder and creative director of Les Petits Joueurs. Our intentions behind the creeping: to learn what she’s all about.

Maria Sole Cecchi

Florence, Italy

What do you do?

I am the co-founder and creative director of Les Petits Joueurs!

How long have you lived here?

I spent my childhood in Florence, and recently moved into this new apartment about seven months ago.

Who do you live with, animals included?

Sadly no animals as I travel a lot but I do live with my brother who is also my business partner.

What do you like about the neighborhood?

I love that the neighborhood is located in the historic city center. Everything around it is beautiful, from the old buildings to the view of Ponte Vecchio from my sitting room window.

What’s the best thing about your home?

I love how it is filled with so many different finds from my trips around the world. My favorite spot is the yellow staircase with its geometric carpet.

Do you ever work from home and if so, what’s that like? Is it important to you to have a dedicated workspace or do you work from bed/the couch?

Once in a while, I do need a simple change of environment from my office to clear my mind, and I find my home is the ideal place for that. My home is also just 10 minutes away from our flagship boutique on Via de’Tornabuoni, Florence’s luxury shopping district. So often I have meetings between my house and the store.

What did you think about when decorating?

I was inspired by the interior design of our flagship boutique, which is a mix of different concepts that reflect my personality and my creative direction. When I was decorating I kept those motifs in the center, and worked around them room by room.I painted one of the walls yellow and added a touch of brick with the black and white carpet. I also couldn’t have done it without my mum’s support; she’s a master in decorating!

What are your favorite home “scores” and where are they from?

My Cassina table with vintage chairs.

For someone young and trying to nest, what are your top three tips when it comes to finding/buying items for the home?

I always look for one-of-a-kind pieces that will last and tell a story in the future. Also don’t be afraid to mix and match themes!

What is your favorite home decor store?

Mercatino Penelope in Milan.

Most unexpected place to find great things for the home?

Traveling abroad is always a great opportunity to find hidden gems. I lived in Brazil for a few years and found some amazing pieces.

Where’s your favorite place online to look for apartment inspiration?

I love looking through Architectural Digest — there’s always some amazing inspiration.

What’s the one thing every home should have?
