Sometimes the details are precisely what makes a live fashion show feel so special (and necessary!), and the designers who present at London Fashion Week might know this better than anyone. Every season we can count on them to offer up a counterpoint to “less is more,” to zap us awake with their flair for the wacky and dramatic, to push forward rather than pull back. London Fashion Week is just FUN.
This season was no exception, and the collections of Preen, Roksanda, Isa Arfen, Shrimps, Topshop Unique and Ryan Lo were a solid testament to that. They told plenty of stories on the runway, but arguably even more compelling were those they told backstage and up close. Thank goodness for photographer Annie Jones, then, who did us all the favor of zooming in.
Blue-painted eyebrows, flowers as makeup, thick ribbon closures on glittery bauble chokers, a single gold earring, converse high-tops covered in pony hair, silver washers tied with thread and worn as a headband. The details offer so much to think about. Scroll through and see for yourself. Unless you don’t feel like thinking, in which case click through anyway, you’ll still have a blast.
