Confession: I Want to Eat the New Mansur Gavriel Collection

Have you ever walked into a room and wanted to lick everything? Probably not since you were 10 months old and the newly christened recipient of a teething-induced oral fixation, but that’s beside the point. The point is that Mansur Gavriel’s pop-up space just got a makeover to celebrate the debut of its Spring/Summer 2017 collection, and it is the definition of mouthwatering. Welcome to the Candy Shop.

The entire room looks like a scoop of lemon sorbet. It’s floor-to-ceiling yellow. When I stopped by the space for a sneak peek before it opened to the press, I had to put blue booties over my shoes so I wouldn’t scuff up the yellow perfection with my gross street feet.

Every shelf is stocked with traditional fine Italian confections, including Jordan almonds, marzipan fruit (conveniently displayed in perfectly Instagrammable squares), Tuscan pound and balsamic cakes, biscotti and brioche pastries.

Are your tastebuds doing weird things? I haven’t even talked about the bags and the shoes yet. They aren’t edible (you do you though), but they sure look good enough to eat. The new Spring/Summer 2017 styles stay true to Mansur Gavriel’s signature stamps of bright color and classic silhouettes with a modern twist. One of the new bags, dubbed the Posternak, is a ladylike take on a briefcase; with a top handle, a foldover flap and enough space to hold an iPad, it’s functional without being too…work-y. You know?

The new silk and grosgrain shoe materials are my personal favorite addition. Transformed into pointy mules with tiny block heels, they look like the kind of fancy but comfortable slippers a Turkish princess would wear on a garden stroll or a romantic escapade 200 years ago — yet are also somehow perfect for pairing with tweed trousers and a graphic T-shirt in 2017.

Last month, Mansur Gavriel announced that it was hopping aboard the increasingly popular see-now-buy-now model in lieu of the traditional fashion calendar format. Translation: everything I have described above is available for purchase immediately a.k.a. tomorrow when the store opens to the public.

You’ll be greeted by shop girls wearing demure white dresses with Peter Pan collars. They look like the kind of nurses who are really good at finding the right vein if you know what I mean. They also look like chic, bag-selling angels — which was probably the intention. And don’t worry, you can also buy all the candy. Head to the “wrapping station,” where your treats of choice will be packed in custom-made Mansur Gavriel boxes.

Now go get a tissue for your drool. Sorry — I should have led with that.
