Oh Boy Episode 46: Martha Wainwright

In partnership with TheRealReal

In this week’s episode of Oh Boy, singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright discusses her “bohemian childhood.” As the daughter of musicians Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle and sister to Rufus Wainwright, she’s been surrounded by music her whole life.

This type of scenario could go either way: Either you rebel as a way to define yourself apart from your family or you feel born into the world of it all, as if you couldn’t possibly imagine an alternative direction. For Martha Wainwright, music felt like a path that was chosen for her until she began to cherish her own unique ability. The folk-rock artist just released her new album, Goodnight City, in November. Success for her is now a night where she can put her two kids to bed, play a show and get the applause.

Hers is an interesting artist’s journey, one centered in “finding yourself” along with “finding balance.” Headphones in, enjoy.
