Lipstick is the Avocado Toast of Makeup: Everyone Likes It

In partnership with Shiseido.

Lipstick exists its own kind of orbit. It looks just as amazing on Rihanna as it does a bare-faced French woman or your grandma on her birthday. Which begs the question: Why? Maybe it’s because lip color feels kind to women. It aims to celebrate us rather than hide us, change us or improve us. And I hate to over-romanticize, but I don’t think its a coincidence that we love a product that frames a part of us so often diminished: our words. Even people who shy away from makeup like lipstick.

But it’s still true that picking a color can be a challenging, particularly when you aren’t sure which shade looks good on your shade (of skin, of attitude, of excellence, etc). The magic of science, though, is alive and well in the lipstick world. It’s getting easier! Japanese brand Shiseido’s new collection was developed specifically to tackle the daunting search for what flatters you (and, bonus, lipstick’s other weak spots like that it can be drying and uncomfortable) (a.k.a. it’s silky as heck).

The 16 shades that make up their Rouge Rouge collection are supposed to work on everyone, so I put that to the test by asking six women at Man Repeller to pick one and put it on immediately. Click through above to see the drop-dead-gorg results (yes, I’m biased but not this time seriously!!!). I also asked them a little bit about their histories with lipstick because I’m a freak and want to know everyone’s feeling all the time. Yours too, actually, so get at me in the comments about your lipstick feels!
