You know when you’re really hungry and all you can think about is a turkey sandwich, or when you’re really sleepy and all you can think about is your down comforter, or when you’re really in the mood for something new to wear and you’ve saved up some monies accordingly and all you can think about is WHAT EXACTLY YOU SHOULD SPEND YOUR MONIES ON?
Right now I am experiencing a combination of all three desires, combined with a newfound affection for the word “monies” seemingly out of nowhere, but that’s neither here nor there. I just ordered a turkey sandwich and I’m planning on going to bed early tonight, so that means we just have one topic to discuss: new clothes, who dis?
I’ve been eyeing this two-piece swimsuit from Solid & Striped ever since my eyeballs gravitated toward it during a casual perusal of Moda Operandi and my saliva started pooling accordingly. The top in particular is the perfect, elusive cut — sort of halfway between a bikini and a tankini if you know what I mean. My only hesitation in making the purchase is the fact that it’s November and what am I doing buying swimsuits when I should be buying coats and stuff?
Here’s a compromise: how about I buy the swimsuit and a coat, or more specifically a jacket — because I’ve been thinking about cream-colored fleeces ever since I saw one in Sandy Liang’s SS18 presentation. While I have considered the Patagonia version, this Topshop option has recently presented itself as worthy of consideration. Who needs pants when you’ve got swimwear and shearling? Not I.
However, I might need one of these bags from Heimat Atlantica, a brand I discovered on Instagram and can’t stop thinking about. The miniature silhouette beckons to my tiny bag obsession like a siren song that reverberates every time I’m looking for a fresh vessel in which to deposit my keys.
Speaking of siren songs, puff sleeves have been seducing me with a vengeance. I’m fully aware they might be on the cusp of entering the trend graveyard given their persistent ubiquity of late, but that’s not stopping my eagerness to dabble, especially since spotting this Jacquemus creation. I would pair it with wonderfully weird Ganni jeans and wonderfully professorial platform loafers because these are the ingredients for a perfect fall outfit, according to me and science.
Last but not least, have you heard of RIXO? It’s a vintage-inspired, London-based brand with clothes made from hand-painted fabric. I love their stuff and am considering this celestial wrap dress as my potential go-to 2017 holiday party outfit base. Paired with a turtleneck, it can easily moonlight (pun intended) as a day dress as well. Glitter boots optional but encouraged.
I’m also obsessed with jewelry from Grainne Morton, another Instagram discovery. Their eclectic charm creations are quirky and sophisticated at the same time — a difficult combo to nail — and while a little out of my price range, they make great fodder for my fantasy wish list.
Where are you spending your monies these days? Tell me so I can copy you.
